Workers participate in an intensive training program.
The training is based in community settings, involving
contract work with commercial businesses.
During the winter season, the training program extends to a variety of maintenance contracts, such as small tree lopping, landscaping, rubbish removal and other light work.
As the workers’ skills increase they work unsupervised on selected jobs. The maintenance team spend 90% of their time, independent of the centre.
Recognition of machinery and its appropriate use. Stamina Mowing techniques, Whipper snipping. Edging, Vacuum sweeping of paths, Manual sweeping, Safety in work areas,
Safe handling of machinery, Correct lifting techniques, Safe storage of machinery, implements and fuel. Appropriate clothing and footwear, Use of protective shields,
apparel and sunscreens. Ability to stay on task, Social skills and Communication skills.
